Baker Community Services District

About Baker

Building a Better Baker

Baker Community Services District, more commonly called "The CSD" or simply "The District"
is the local governmental entity for the unincorporated town of Baker, California. We are organized under section 61000 of the California Government Code and we are a political sub-division of the State of California. We are known as an "Independent Special District" meaning we elect a five member Board of Directors at large from registered voters residing within the district. There are two other features which distinguish special districts. Enterprise Districts which fund themselves by charging a fee for certain services they provide and Non-enterprise Districts which rely on property taxes for funding. A Water District is a good example of an Enterprise District. A Park District is a good example of a Non-enterprise District.

Baker C. S. D. is a combination of both types of districts. Under the enterprise function we provide Water, Sanitary Sewers and Trash Collection services to the community and charge for those services. Under our non-enterprise functions we also provide Fire Protection, (in cooperation with the San Bernardino County Fire Department), Television Translators, Park and Recreation including a Public Park, a Community Center and a public Swimming Pool, Road Maintenance and Street Lighting. We do not charge a fee for our non-enterprise functions.
Note the temperature at 128 degrees.
